Trumbull police arrested a Winsted man on charges he stole checks from his mother and cashed them for about $8,500.

Three Norwalk Police officers helped deliver a baby girl early on Tuesday morning. They responded to a call about a woman in labor at 2:29 a.m. who had already started having contractions. Five minutes later, the officers helped bring a new baby into the world.

A woman staying in a motel in Milford allegedly “visited” her brother and stepfather’s home in Fairfield; she broke in, stole cash and the stepfather’s car.

A 73-year-old New Canaan female told police that five checks were missing from her check book. She discovered all were made out to cash, for a total of $9603.

Police said her signature was forged on the checks and all were endorsed by the same individual, who was charged with larceny, third degree and five counts of forgery. He posted a bond of $10,000. The 48-year-old man arrested was identified as the victim's son-in-law.

Westport police charged a Bridgeport man with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle after initiating a traffic stop and spotting marijuana in his back seat. A search of the vehicle turned up a shotgun in the trunk. The man told the officers it was his father's gun and that he forgot it was in his car.

Wilton police found themselves stuck at Norwalk Hospital this past weekend after a non-violent offender under their care collapsed at the courthouse before being arraigned, forcing Wilton to stand by their man's side while he was admitted as a patient. Part of the problem was due to the man being unable to pay a measly $10,000 bond for his break of probation for a "violation of wage payments" crime. When Monday came around, cops successfully pleaded with the judge to drop the $10,000 to a simple promise-to-appear.

An Easton man crashed a car in Fairfield that he had taken by mistake from the parking lot of a bar. The man told police he was driving his minivan; he was in fact driving someone else’s Dodge pickup truck.

A former Greenwich resident has been arrested on charges of impersonating a doctor and administering drugs and injections to an unsuspecting elderly Greenwich woman.

Three burglars smashed their way into a downtown Darien jewelry store, at 2 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, to take an estimated $50,000 in jewelry, police said.

After prying open a rear door with a crowbar, the three smashed through glass display cases to take jewelry on display. They brought with them gray plastic garbage cans to haul away the loot.

By the time police arrived and set up a perimeter around the downtown jewelry store, the burglars had already left the scene, taking off in a dark colored van, according to security cameras. A similar incident happened with Peter Suchy Jewelers in Stamford last summer. Police say the burglaries appear to be related.
