The New Year's First Arrest

The first arrest of 2012 is for driving under the influence, less than an hour into the new year.

 

 

New Year's DWI

A motor vehicle stop at 12:53 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2012 resulted in an arrest for operating under the influence and driving at unreasonable speed, police said. According to the police report, New Canaan police Sgt. Carol Ogrinc  said Timothy C. Head, 59 of Weston was stopped on Silvermine Rd. near Beacon Hill by an officer operating a radar check. While speaking to the driver, the officer reported noticing signs of intoxication. He then conducted a field sobriety test and Head was placed under arrest. He posted a $250 bond and is due in court on Jan. 12.

Motor Vehicle Stop Results in Narcotics Violation

A police officer stopped a car travelling on Weed St. near Elm St. on Dec. 29, 2011 at 7:19 p.m. after he observed the car to be going at a speed he determined was over the posted limit, according to his report. While speaking with the driver, the police report said, the officer saw a bottle of liquor in the pocket behind the driver's seat and detected the the odor of marijuana coming from the car. The officer said the car's driver handed him a pipe and marijuana cigarette, containing less than .5 oz. Jonathan Avery, 20 of Ponus Ridge Rd., was given an infraction for unreasonable speed, possession of less than a .5 oz. of marijuana, possession of drug paraphenelia, and possession of alcohol by a minor.

Jewelry Larceny

A 78-year-old female resident of Graystone Circle reported several pieces of jewelry missing to police. On Jan. 1, 2012 she told police she realized she was missing three pieces, which she had last seen about a month earlier. The missing items are: a yellow/gold choker necklace valued at $3000, an 18 carat yellow/gold bracelet valued at $4000 and a yellow/gold ring valued at $3000. There was no sign of forced entry, according to the report.

Two Reports of Lawn Equipment Larceny on Jan. 2, 2012

A 61-year-old male reported to police that lawn equipment was missing from the Smith Ridge Rd. residence of a relative. The report said he believed the items were taken sometime between Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 and Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012. Missing were: 2 stainless steel grass catchers ($300 each), 1 backpack leafblower ($500), an Echo gas hedge trimmer ($375) and a gas-powered pruning saw ($550). The resident reported that an Hispanic male driving a black pick-up truck had come to her door on Dec. 27, 2011 asking for directions to an address that turned out to be in Norwalk.

A 56-year-old male resident of Silvermine Rd. reported on the same day that his Echo backpack leafblower ($330) had been stolen. He told police he first noticed the item missing on Dec. 17. There was no sign of forced entry to the attached garage in which it was stored.

Woods End Rd. Resident Reports Attempted Fraud

On Dec. 28, 2011 a 20-year-old male reported to police that he believed his Social Security number had been compromised. He received a call alerting him that someone, a female, had attempted to open an account using his number. The report indicates that eight banks were contacted unsuccessfully in an effort to open accounts.

Family Dispute Referred to Juvenile Court

A dispute between a mother and son occurred on Pine St. According to the police report, the woman was struck at least two times by her 15-year-old son, who was charged with assault, third-degree and referred to juvenile court for a Jan. 3 appearance.

In-Law Family Dispute

A 45-year-old son-in-law reported to police that his 70-year-old mother-in-law grabbed his nose in a disagreement on Jan. 1, 2012. The mother-in-law was charged with disorderly conduct and released on a promise to appear. Her court appearance was scheduled for Jan. 3.

In-Law family dispute: Are you for real? You call the police because your 70 year old mother in-law grabs your nose? Buck up. You know in-laws don't always like or get along with who their son/daughter marry. I could see if she beat the heck out of you but arresting her for pulling your nose? And at her age? WOW. Now she really hates you. This is funny to me.
