Dr. Abbey gave the following synopses of both students at the meeting.

Doug Reilly

It is hard not to run into Doug Reilly around school. As baseball
captain, senior class leader, senior editor for “Courant” and
unofficial leader of the student cheer section, he can be found almost
everywhere.

Doug is an intelligent, engaged student; a thoughtful, considerate and
well-spoken school leader. He interacts with adults as confidently and
effectively as he does with his classmates and is generally considered
to be one of the most positive and influential student leaders NCHS
has seen in quite a while. On the ball field, he has been a constant
source of team spirit - a relentless competitor, a great captain and a
wonderful teammate. He is also known as a leader within the school
and among his peers. In fact he is one of the most well liked seniors
at NCHS. One of Doug’s unique qualities is his willingness to do
the right thing and be willing to try and influence his peers to do
the same. Doug has the ability to be comfortable making the right
decisions and still be genuine with his classmates.

Doug’s varied extracurricular activities plus his fine academic record
have earned him acceptance into the College of Charleston, whose
goal isto prepare its students to be “ethical, open-minded leaders and
multidisciplinary problem solvers.” Based upon his accomplishments
at New Canaan High School, he seems to have made an excellent
choice. There he will be able to pursue his many academic interests,
particularly in math and journalism, as well as a multitude of extra
curricular activities. The commitment and enthusiasm he showed for
his high school and is bound to be repeated at college – Charleston
had better be prepared for a go-getter.

We wish him the very best of luck in all his endeavors and it is a
pleasure that I present the CABE Leadership Award to Doug in
recognition of the positive and substantive leadership qualities he has
demonstrated throughout his high school years.

Kellianne Hickey

Kellianne is a student who has truly made the most of her high school
experience while seeming to thoroughly enjoy it. To see her in,
class, conducting a student government meeting, producing televised
announcements, or in the skating rink, she seems to take pleasure in
hard work and her accomplishments. She has a proven work ethic, an
inquisitive mind and a determination to succeed.

Kellianne has pursued a rigorous academic program including honors
and advanced placement courses throughout her high school career.

Despite commitments as Student Coalition Vice President, assisting
students new to NCHS, achieving FCIAC and state championship team
status as forward center and as this year’s ice hockey captain, cross
country training, producing TV broadcasting programs, or volunteering
to coach 5 year olds with New Canaan Youth Sports, she has learned to
efficiently manage her time, a skill that will prove indispensable to her
in the future.

She will be remembered at NCHS as a cheerful, indefatigable bundle
of energy who gladly lent a helping hand, excelled in academics and
sports and asan outstanding student who made a personal commitment
to make her community a better place.Kellianne isa standout student
with an incomparable personality who is universally liked and
respected by students and teachers alike.

All of us who know her believe that Kellianne will bring her energy
and enterprise to Loyola of Marylandwhereshe will continue to be the
accomplished student leader that we have seen here at NCHS.
We wish her the very best of luck in all her future endeavors.

It is with pleasure that I present the CABE Leadership Award to
Kellianne in recognition of the positive and significant qualities she
has demonstrated throughout her high school years.
