New Canaan Resident Arrested for Patronizing Prostitute in Greenwich [Update]
Thirteen arrests follow monthlong investigation.
Update: 8:35 p.m.
Greenwich Police say that the string of prostitution arrests they made are the result of a widespread web of activity in the region.
Greenwich Police Capt Mark Marino said, “We came to realize that it was fairly widespread throughout the region. Obviously, it was easy to arrange these rendez-vous. It didn’t appear to be a shortage of women who offer their sevices and there didn’t appear to be a shortage of men who wanted their services.”
The arrests mark the first time in quite a while that Greenwich Police pressed prostitution-related charges against both suspected prostitutes and their customers. Police were tipped off to the activity by Stamford Police in early April. It took about a month for Greenwich Police to investigate and make the arrests after using the Internet and surveillance.
According to Marino, women advertised their services on the Internet, charging between $200 and $400 per hour.
He said that when police made their arrests, between $800 and $1,000 cash was seized. He said that management of the hotels where the arrests were made did not have any knowledge of the illegal activity.
“Hopefully, the word will get out,” Marino said of the arrests. “If we can deter them from coming to Greenwich, I’ll be satisfied.”
Original Story
A monthlong investigation into prostitution in Greenwich has culminated with the arrests of more than a dozen men and women on a variety of prostitution-related charges, according to police.
The Narcotics Section of the Greenwich Police Department's Detective Division launched an investigation after receiving a tip from the Stamford Police Department's Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad that a prostitution ring was operating in the Greenwich, officials say. Detectives say they found through an anonymous tip the identity of a website featuring Asian females available to perform sexual acts in exchange for money at any location in Greenwich, according to a statement released by Greenwich police.
The website advertised its office as being in Greenwich.
Acting in an undercover capacity, detectives contacted the website phone number and negotiated the exchange of money for sexual favors with an Asian female.
During the investigation, detectives found other websites advertising other females, unrelated to the 'Asian' website, who also were offering sexual services in exchange for money in the Greenwich area. Undercover detectives contacted these websites and arranged to meet with various females at a pre-arranged location in Greenwich.
Using an undercover officer from another Connecticut police department, a meeting with the females was made at the pre-arranged location. Using surveillance investigators identified two men who drove the females to the meeting. At the conclusion of the investigation, four women and two men were arrested on April 12.
Those arrested include:
- Jasenia M. Chabron, 21, of Brooklyn, NY; prostitution; conspiracy at prostitution; possession of narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
- Daniel F. Vrabec, 51, of Manhattan, NY; promoting prostitution and conspiracy at prostitution.
- Jessica L. Putzig, 29, of 41 Manor St., Stamford; prostitution.
- Antoine B. Odums, 30, of 111 Chapel St., New Haven; promoting prostitution and conspiracy at prostitution.
- Rosaida Llerena, 22, of 111 Chapel St., New Haven; prostitution; conspiracy at prostitution.
- Haiyan Lu, 33, of Flushing, NY; prostitution.
All were released on a promise to appear April 26 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
Meanwhile, police continued their investigation with members of the Narcotics Section and the Patrol Division targeting prostitute patrons. Detectives obtained hotel rooms at an unidentified local hotel and an undercover posting was placed on a website well known for advertising prostitution. The undercover officer was contacted by multiple men who negotiated a meeting. The men and the undercover officer agreed to meet at a pre-arranged location within Greenwich so the undercover officer could perform a sexual act on the men in exchange for a cash payment.
According to police, during the investigation, detectives found another website offering Greenwich-based sexual services.
Based on those investigations, Greenwich police have arrested:
- Nieda L. Ponce, 43, 175 Prospect St., Stamford; prostitution.
- Francis W. Hogan III, 52, of 52 Father Peters Ln., New Canaan; patronizing a prostitute.
- Alexander G. Huebner, 19, of 7 Shady Brook Ln., Old Greenwich; patronizing a prostitute.
- Joseph Tarnowski, 54, of 46 Mabel Ave., Danbury; patronizing a prostitute.
- Edward Gangi III, 28, of 500 Bedford St., Stamford; patronizing a prostitute.
- Ronal A. Paredes, 24, 114 Ludlow St., Stamford; patronizing a prostitute.
- Kaylan Mukherjee, 41, 164 Cat Rock Rd., Greenwich; patronizing a prostitute.
All were released on a promise to appear May 13 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
Police Chief David Ridberg acknowledged that prostitution arrests are uncommon in Greenwich. However, “We decided that with the information we had that we would run a couple of investigations," Ridberg said. He referred further questions to Capt. Mark Marino, Detective Division commander, who was not immediately available for comment.
According to Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray, the management of the two hotels in town—Hyatt Regency Greenwich and the Delamar—were unaware of the prostitution.
In the department’s statement, officials said, “This investigation resulted in a total of 13 arrests as well as the seizure of narcotics and cash. The results send a clear message that this type of illicit activity will not be tolerated. The investigation also serves as a reminder that the support of the community is paramount to successful law enforcement. Anonymous tips are routinely reviewed and followed up on. Anyone with information pertaining to criminal activity is urged to contact the Greenwich Police Department via our anonymous tip line at 203-622-3333 or via our anonymous email tip line at tips@greenwichct.org.”

Thank goodness the police have gotten these horrible criminals off the streets! They are much, much worse than the thieves on Wall Street that are stealing the American taxpayers blind and making millions and millions in the process. Our children are much safer now!

New Canaan house wives are totally clueless there are many men seeing high priced escorts in NYC regularly. As a 40 something man in New Canaan I am no longer shocked to hear from other married men quite openly about the lack of attention at home and the fulfillment they get elsewhere.

Maybe the men are not hot enough. Maybe they're all bald and unmanicured and snore all night. Maybe the wives get what they need elsewhere because their husbands are ugly and bald (and short). It's just how some men are wired....

Or they are super hot like me. I've been banned from frozen food aisles in three nationwide grocery store chains. Makes shopping for ice cream a real challenge!
Bald? Not one bit.
Unmanicured? Manicured like Augusta National.
Snore? Yeah, when I'm sleeping on my back. I busted my nose playing football. Not when I'm sleeping on my side though. I'm considerate!
So, by your thinking, it's okay for the wives to stray too. Right? Send the good ones over to my pad asap!
Their next stop will be at the hospital to have their perma-grins removed by plastic surgery.
And in closing, if a wife's hubby is ugly, short and fat, don't you think that she should go see an attorney?
Let us all know when you can.

The majority of women in New Canaan, Greenwich and Darien are clones. I meet very few unique, non conformist women in either town as a female personal trainer. I hear every day how bored they are; how about volunteering to help those in need? Sad that the press needs to publish the name of this guy or any other person arrested for a non felony it is a private matter.

I FULLY agree that the women in these towns are all clones - everything from their voice inflecion, to hair, permasmile, to their gait while pushing the babystrollers, to the things they talk about (I eavesdrop shamelessly) - don't get me started on physical appearance. Even all the dogs are blond (labs and goldens)! I am not from CT and I am not one one of them - although I lived in Greenwich for 10 years and then moved to New Canaan and have lived here now for 9 years. I am definitely one of those unique, non-comformist types which I can never find to befriend. I feel most of the time like I am living in Oz.
Walter and Lucy Ann, with all due respect, I don't think cheating has a darned thing to do with looks in most cases . . . I have never seen a truly ugly person around here, for one thing - but for another -
it seems women - as long as hubby is around for weekend kid duty - are content spending their husband's money and getting together with their cloned girlfriends to keep them happy. Men on the other hand couldn't care less about that and are most interested in one thing (aside of golf) . . . per Walter's comment about action.
Just my two cents'.

Thank gosh someone said it. A large proportion of New Canaan women, just as many other women across Fairfield and much of Westchester Counties, are materialistic ice queens. Not to make a broad sweep and not to condone adultery, but both husband and wife often both play parts in infidelity.
@LucyAnn maybe the bald, fat husband is straying because his yoga-mat-toting, black-spandex-wearing wife is more interested in her personal trainer than she is in him. and maybe, his visiting a lady of the night is his rebellion against a wife who is superficial, shallow, and probably couldn't give a darn about what's actually going on in her husband's mind and life. and might i ask: what was the wife's true motivation in marrying the short, ugly, snoring beast? gosh, I hope it wasn't money.
one more thing: does anyone else think we should legalize prostitution?
Four Jacks
6:26 pm on Friday, May 6, 2011
I don't fall into the category of having an unattractive husband, but I do certainly think that some women marry for money and some men marry for looks. I have never done yoga, I don't own black spandex, and have never seen a personal trainer. I just feel that it's wrong to blame the wife if a man visits a prostitute, if every unfulfilled person visted a prostitute, it certainly would be a shame, and there would be a lot more male prostitutes!!!

No Lucy, men go to prostitutes because their wives are so busy with the kids and planning their social lives and getting together with their girlfriends and shopping and decorating the house and blah blah blah that they don't have any energy leftover to make 1:1 time with their husbands . . . or if they do, they go home and go to sleep, while the men are lying awake thinking of other things (to put it nicely) . . . That's why. It's easier and cheaper than having a girlfriend and much more discrete. Women are living in la la land if they think this doesn't happen . . . and what's more, they can stop it in many cases. Not all - there is always the unreformable philanderer. And look, I am not saying that men are excused from all responsibility or blame . . . just that let's be real and recognize that these men are not perverts in most cases . . .they are normal unfulfilled jackasses who cannot find a better way to deal . . . And again, attractiveness has nothing to do with it.

I do not think we should legalize prostitution btw, Chris . . . You can't just legalize everything and assume it'd be less of a problem. Where exactly would the brothels go? Main St or Elm? Or maybe we can convert the Roger Sherman Inn? Ugh . . . think what that would do to NC property values!! :-P
Chris Paul
8:27 pm on Friday, May 6, 2011
I think Waveny is pretty ripe for a brothel. At least if prostitution was legal, NC husbands wouldn't have to worry about bringing home any STD's. Although their wives probably aren't sleeping with them anyway, so never mind.

Something about the story? Yes, I thought the story was hilarious . . . Pristine waspy New Canaan embarrassed with a seedy news story about something that happens to be commonplace - whether people realize it or not. Other than that, it's only your unfounded assumptions that are getting to me Lucy. This just goes to show everyone how very dangerous and stupid it is to assume things about people you don't know in the very least. There is no reason on earth you should feel bad for me . . . Most people should be so lucky as to have the wonderful husband I have and live the happy life I live. I was simply stating truths that most women either are too ignorant to understand, or they simply deny. You on the other hand, are entirely too sidetracked by your fascination with what you think is behind my comments . . . you don't know anything about me . . .
Anyway, I've said all I care to on this subject, and on this thread, so find someone else's comments to obssess over.

Wow, this was the best comment page I have read in a long time. Very entertaining. I was laughing at some and in shock, jaw dropping at other comments. Then it got "mean" on the last few comments. When a couple gets married, don't they say in their vows, "To Love, Honor and Cherish Till Death Do Us Part?"
If husbands and wives can't keep these vows through their marriages, why do they get married? If there are problems in the bed department then they should talk about it to each other or see a sex therapist. If one of them refuses then get a divorce or better yet buy a blow up doll (divorce is too expensive). If the husband is working and supporting the wife and her luxeries then she should be greatfull and fork out. I wish I were that lucky.

Sorry, I ran out of room above and need to write more. I was smart and didn't marry my man. We have 2 great daughter's. I am glad I didn't marry him, because he turned into a totally different person. We are not living together now. So to me marriage is not for me because saying the vows doesn't mean anything to anyone now a days. We still see each other for recreation but don't have the marrital obligation. Most men like spice. Most Women get used to the money they can spend by their husbands earnings and feel they are owed that, yet not obligated to return the favor to the husband. Women also like the spice but men and women get into a routine that gets boring. SPICE IT UP OR BUY A SEX BOOK. As far as the comment made about writing a book about these comments, I already am and would love to use these opinions (names and a different location for these comments changed). This was great reading opinions. Walter, can I see a picture of you to see how good looking you are? But the man who lives in New Canaan who got arrested should not have had his name printed in the news. That was wrong. It is between him and his family only, not for us to throw stones at him. He was just caught trying to cheat, not caught in the act of it. It doesn't deserve your name in the paper. Women do it to. Keep a look out for my book when it is hopefully published and keep up the great comment entertainment. This page was the best.

Reading these comments has given me a good chuckle. I am a former Canaanite and I was itching to leave Fairfield county - the women in FF county are clones and growing up there was not easy, especially if you didn't fit the stereotypical profile of perfection. I also felt that nothing there is realistic, much like Oz, mentioned above. I also HATED that everybody knew everything about everybody - where's the sense of individuality?
Prostitution is legal in most countries in Europe - it's not abused and no one really thinks much of it. In Amsterdam, the Red Light district is almost a tourist spectacle. If prostitution is legalized, the prostitutes have to have regular tests to assure that they are healthy.
I think people need to get a grip, have fun, relax, accept that "perfection" does not exist - so what if the man tried to get it on with a prostitute? perhaps he wanted a bit of adrenaline? - as written above, he obviously wasn't getting what he needed and just happened to get caught with his pants down. If so many are meddling in others affairs, perhaps they need to find some of their own personal entertainment.

In fact, I do need one once in a while. But, I don't live in NC anymore. I had to leave, I was tired of being pawed, stared at, stalked, fondled and groped by the local females aged 18 to 80. Even younger ones would ask me for my cell number so they could text me. I had to politely decline their requests.
Sometimes, I just feel like a slab of Kobe beef. It ain't easy being me, I gotta tell ya!
P.S. Just imagine George Clooney or some other matinée idol and multiply it by 20. Al Gore wants me dead, he thinks I'm the two legged cause of global warming but good for his business.

To Walter Knight, Canaanite, and all the other whiners. Life is tough. Living in a beautiful town, with attractive wives and the struggle to raise good kids.
Grow up and appreciate what you have.
If your wives are cold, look at yourself first. If your jobs make you angry and bitter, change your jobs. If the uniformity of it all bores you, try the uniformity of living in a bleak ghetto forty miles south of here.
But for God's sake, stop your whining about living a lifestyle that billions of people can only dream of.

There is a huge difference between "whining as you put it, and pointing out truths. You're right, if it was so unbearable, then I would move (assume same for others, although I wouldn't want to speak for them). I live here exactly because it's beneficial to do so . . . However that doesn't change the truth about what it's like to live here. It is not utopia, and granted, no place is - and the point of this thread was to discuss an aspect of that. There are unique issues that come up in a town like this that you don't see in the ghetto (I ought to know, I come from humble beginnings) . . . such as this story about the guy who visited the prostitute. So perhaps your comments would do more good if you directed them to him . . .
