Facebook Fraud
A fictitious Facebook profile, a car collides with a propane tank and several renovation-related larcenies all reported in this week's Police Blotter.
Fictitious Facebook Profile Page
A New Canaan female, under age seventeen, reported to New Canaan Police on Nov. 22 at 10:10am that a fictitious Facebook profile page had been created using photos of her from her Facebook account. The report stated that she said the photos taken from her account were then cross-posted from the new profile to a third Facebook page, which also included pornographic images. The police report stated that inappropriate comments were on the Facebook page created using her image as well. The third page was subsequently removed by Facebook.
Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said NCPD receives about three to five similar reports a year, but that she suspects there are many more incidences that go unreported.
The matter is under investigation and Ogrinc said that it usually takes a week, if not more, to obtain information from Facebook.
Cars Collide on Cherry Street
Officers, as well as the New Canaan Fire Department, were called to 121 Cherry St. on Nov. 22 at approximately 3:48pm when a propane tank sprang a leak after being hit by a parked car, which was pushed into the tank by a second moving vehicle, police report.
Police report that the moving car, a 2004 Lexus, driven by an 84-year-old male New Canaan resident, struck the parked car after exiting Burtis Ave. and crossing Cherry St. The driver of the Lexus reported to police that in an attempt to turn around on Burtis, which is a one way street, he instead put his car in reverse, at which point he struck the JP Morgan Chase Bank building at the corner of Burtis and Main St. He told police, according to their report, that his foot then became stuck between the pedals, which resulted in his travelling east on Burtis, crossing Cherry St., stopping when his car hit a 2000 Nissan station wagon, which was parked at 121 Cherry St.
As a result of the leak, the immediate area was evacuated. His license was seized as of this report and although there were no obvious signs of injury, he was taken to the hospital.
Both cars were towed. The investigation is ongoing.
Renovation-Related Larcenies
On Nov. 22, a 61-year-old female resident of Lambert Rd reported to police that as many as fourteen French-style glass doors, circa 1915, were missing from her home. The resident, who had been absent from the home according to the police report, reported that she believes the doors were taken sometime between Oct. 22 and Nov. 22. The homeowner reported that while renovations are being done at the home the doors had been stored on the premises.
A value has yet to be placed on the doors, which were purchased at auction in 1995. The investigation is ongoing.

A storage container, on the grounds of an Oenoke Ridge Rd home, which is also undergoing renovation, is missing several items, a contractor working at the site reported to police on Nov. 23 at 3:48pm.
According to the police report, the contractor said he noticed that the container, which was filled with household items in June, was missing its padlock on Nov. 10. At that time, he told police, he replaced the padlock.
The homeowner, who was at the home recently, went into the container and discovered several items were missing. She reported several filled garment bags and a microwave valued at $200 were missing.
The homeowner told police that she believes the items were taken within the last month and is expected to supply police with a complete list of missing contents. The investigation is ongoing.

A contractor is also the complainant in a residential burglary reported to police. The home in this report is also on Oenoke Ridge Rd and is also undergoing renovation.
On Nov. 28 at 8:37am, the contractor called police to report that the house, which was locked and secure the previous evening, had a smashed glass pane in a front window.
Immediately discovered to be missing were three Sony flat-screen TV's and two 27 inch Apple computer monitors, according to the report.
This matter is also under investigation.
Trespassing on Locust Avenue
The owner of the building at 65 Locust Ave called police on Nov. 22 at 9:04pm to report that a group of young adults were hanging out in the underground parking lot at his building.
There have been at least six reports of youths congregating in the parking area and noise complaints from neighbors previously, Ogrinc said.
Police who went to the scene reported ten people in the parking area, which the report said has a "No Trespassing" sign clearly posted at its entrance.
Five of those present were issued summons for third degree criminal trespass, which is a misdemeanor. The report stated that these five individuals had been previously warned by the same police officer that they could not congregate under the buildling. They were: Jeremy L. Finnegan, 22, Lakeview Ave; Trevor L. Harvey, 21 of St. John's Place; Derek B. Harvey, 18, also St. John's Place; Christopher W. Hulbert, 22, Norwalk; and Nicholas S. Murphy, 21, East Maple Ave. All were released on the promise to appear. Their court date is set for Dec 6.
The other five persons were issued a warning.
Narcotics Violation
A police officer travelling on Old Norwalk Rd on Nov. 25 at 12:14pm followed a vehicle, which was travelling in the opposite direction, when that vehicle took a curve at a fairly high rate of speed, crossing the double yellow line, according to the officer's report.
He subsequently stopped the vehicle, which was driven by Kevin Johnson, 21 of Main St., on New Norwalk Rd.
In speaking with Johnson, the officer reports, he detected the odor of marijuana. His report stated that the driver admitted he was in possession of a small amount of marijuana. A search of the car revealed a small amount of the drug in a plastic bag, as well as drug paraphernalia.
Johnson was issued an infraction for possession of less than .5 oz of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and received a verbal warning for failure to drive right on a hill/curve.
Waveny Park Larceny
On Nov 21 at 4:08pm, a 40-year-old female from Stamford reported to police that her car was broken into at Waveny Park.
The driver reported that she was parked in the lot near Spencer's Dog Run. She returned after about an hour to find the passenger side window of her car shattered. Missing from her car, according to the police report was a purse valued at $100, which contained several credit cards and $100 in cash.
Vandalism on Pine Street
On Nov. 26, an employee of New Canaan Wine Merchants reported to police that the word "dead" had been spray-painted on the wall behind the store.
