Police Break Up Teen Party, Find Mom Hiding in Closet

Daughter advised her mother to hide so she wouldn't get in trouble.

Police officers who broke up a party at which 50-60 teens were drinking found the mother of the party’s host hiding in an upstairs closet, according to the .

Lori Underwood, 47, was issued an infraction for failing to halt possession of alcohol by a minor after she was discovered when police searched the premises of the Weed St. residence. Her daughter, Avery Underwood, 19, was charged with delivery of alcohol to minors and second-degree forgery for possession of a fake ID.

The incident took place on Aug. 22 when police responded to a noise complaint that came in just after 11 p.m. As officers approached the area, they observed several young people walking on the road.

“When they arrived they observed several young males and females trying to get into vehicles and running from the property,” Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said. “There were numerous cans and bottles of beer on the lawn, on the driveway and in the back yard.”

Avery Underwood told police all of the guests were underage. Police got the names of nine of the guests. All were 19 years old.

Ogrinc said Lori Underwood was discovered when police checked the premises.

“We look everywhere because you don’t want to leave someone behind,” she said. “We make sure no one is under a bed, no one is passed out.”

According to Ogrinc, Avery Underwood told her mother to hide because she “didn’t want her to get in trouble.”

Police confiscated approximately 30 beers, rum, wine and 85 empty beer cans and bottles.

Avery Underwood posted $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 6. Delivery of alcohol to a minor is a Class D felony.
