Students Raise $37,000 on Scholarship Sunday

NCHS students went door-to-door to raise funds for the NCHS Scholarship Foundation.

On Sunday, April 3, New Canaan High School students went door-to-door to raise money for the 44th annual New Canaan High School Scholarship Foundation drive.

According to foundation drive co-chair Liz Mallozzi, 187 students participated in the drive. They raised $37,000 during the afternoon.

 The school held an assembly on Friday, April 1, where Stewart Taylor and Nick Zanca, students of music tech teacher Anna Mase, screened 'Scholarship Sunday,' a music video they created for the students who were preparing to solicit residents.

According to the foundation's website, the scholarships, which are totally need based, are awarded to graduates who are pursuing higher education. The bulk of the foundation’s funding is provided by local individuals, service clubs, businesses, corporations and memorial contributions, as well as the students' one day door-to-door campaign.

 From Sunday, April 3 through April 9, is holding to collect money for the fund.

In 2010 the foundation awarded 66 scholarships, with an average of $2,848.00 per award, according to the NCHS Scholarship Foundation website.
