Town of New Canaan Searching for a Budget Director

Preparing the town's budget can be too much work for one man.

Working on New Canaan's town budget is a strenuous job. Just ask New Canaan Chief Financial Officer Gary Conrad.

"I was putting too many hours into the budgeting process," said Conrad, who finds himself working 60-hour weeks during the months from December to April. But Conrad now has reason to breathe a sigh of relief, albeit a tiny one.

To assist the CFO, the town of New Canaan announced last week it is accepting applicants to fill the newest opening in Town Hall: Budget Director.

The position comes with a lofty salary of $90,000 and would require working closely with Conrad on drafting financial plans, creating presentations and working with various departments throughout the year to help them adhere to their budgets.

According to the advertisement posted by the town, the successful applicant "must possess a bachelor's degree and a strong knowledge of municipal budgeting and governmental accounting."

Town administrators hope to have the candidate selected and working by the end of August. Interested applicants should contact Town of New Canaan's Human Resources.
