10th Annual Turkey Trot

On Sunday, November 24th at 11 a.m. the 10th annual Turkey Trot will take place at Irwin Park in New Canaan to raise money for the Open Door Norwalk Emergency Shelter

For nine years, the Turkey Trot has raised money to support the Open Door Norwalk Emergency Shelter. This year’s event will feature a fun walk through the beautiful ¾ mile trail of Irwin Park and a 5K race for more competitive participants. Organized by a team of New Canaan locals: Kelly and K.C. Clark, Teddy Schoenholtz, Paige Lord and PJ Reinemann, the event provides much-needed funds over the busy holiday season.

Co-Chairman Kelly Clark notes, “The Turkey Trot is an excellent way to provide assistance to the needy during Thanksgiving. Thanks to the support of many New Canaan residents, we have been able to offer much needed assistance over the past decade. We hope to see many new faces at this years event in the hopes of continuing our commitment to the local homeless and showing the full support of New Canaan for the less fortunate.”

The Open Door shelter has made a desperate appeal to our annual event for financial support. In the years following the economic crisis, the shelter has seen a huge increase in homeless clients and a decrease in donor contributions, which has created a large shortfall. Any small donation will be welcome and if you cannot attend the event and would still like to contribute, please make a make a donation on this page!

Bring your family, friends and pets for the brisk walk or fun run, rain or shine. Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, a raffle and prizes will be on hand. Students can use this event to earn community service hours. A minimum donation/registration fee of $20 is suggested for the event.
