26th Annual Bigelow Tea Community Challenge Sunday, September 29, 2013 (Rain or Shine) Southport, CT Open to the Public / Registration Opens at 8:00 am

FAIRFIELD, Conn., September 2013 – Bigelow Tea, along with residents of Fairfield County and surrounding areas, will once again come together for a fun-packed morning at the 26th Annual Bigelow Tea Community Challenge Annual Community Challenge that benefits 17 local charities.

The certified 5K Road Race, 2-mile non-competitive Fitness Walk and a Kids’ Fun Run will take place on Sunday, September 29, 2013 – rain or shine, at Wakeman Boys & Girls Club in Southport, Connecticut.  The event is open to the public.  Over 1,000 participants of all ages are expected to attend.

The Kids’ Fun Run starts promptly at 9:00 am, followed by a non-competitive 2-mile Fitness Walk and the computer-chip-timed 5K Road Race at 10:00 am. An awards ceremony will begin at approximately 10:30 am.  Free Prizes, including airline tickets donated by Warren Travel of Westport, will be raffled.  The event ends by noon.

Open to the public, there are three ways to register:

  • Online 24/7 @ bigelowtea.com
  • On Saturday, September 28 between 9:00am-3:00pm at the Fairfield YMCA
  • On day of race at Wakeman Boys & Girls Club, starting at 8:00am 
  • Nominal entry fees are charged (5K - $25, Fitness Walk $20, Kids’ Fun Run $10)

The first 800 adults and first 200 kids to register receive a FREE race T-Shirt, FREE Race Gift Bag, complimentary after-race refreshments and a chance great raffle prizes, including a $400 Gift Certificate donated by Warren Travel, Westport.

 

The Bigelow Tea Community Challenge, sponsored each year by the makers of “Constant Comment”® and other fine teas, raised over $100k last year – over $800k since its inception!  As always, 100% of the money raised will be awarded to a short list of 17 local charities that include the Bridge House, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Burroughs Community Center, Cardinal Shehan Center, Caroline House, Center for Women & Families, Connecticut Food Bank, Fairfield Senior Center, Fairfield YMCA, Grasmere by the Sea Eldercare Center, Janus House, Mercy Learning Center, Neighborhood Studios of Fairfield County, Norma Pfriem Breast Care Center, Operation Hope, Sandcastle Playground, and Wakeman Boys & Girls Club.

Participants are asked to help support our local food bank by bringing a non-perishable item on race day.
