7th Grade Girls Basketball News

New Canaan 7th Grade Girls score big win:

It was a full and exciting weekend of basketball for the New Canaan 7th Grade girls basketball team who won two of their four games.

On Friday night, the girls came on strong and ready for a win. The first quarter saw plenty of action with Maeve Selvaggi scoring in the first minute of the game. Emma Barker quickly added 4 points, followed by Riley Krug and Kate Vaske both with two points each ending the first quarter 12-7.

The girls defense dominated in the second quarter, holding the Greenwich team at bay and not allowing for any shots, keeping the score unchanged at 12-7 going into the third quarter. Their was plenty of excitement and action in the third with Krug scoring 4 points, Leah Charlton with 2 and several quick turnovers, and Alana Tonghini, Barker and Vaske each with 2. Great defense and rebounding play from all the girls allowed Greenwich only 2 points in the third bringing the score to 26-9. In the fourth quarter, the defense remained intense and we saw great passing and teamwork. Lauren Seechan scored an impressive shot from the back court adding 2, Annie Mignalia added two and Tonghini had two back to back steals.

New Canaan dominated 30-12.

New Canaan 7th Grade Girls play Wilton Blue

Saturday afternoon New Canaan 7th Grade Girls faced a strong Wilton Blue team.

In a spirited game, both teams fought hard throughout all four quarters.

Wilton started the first quarter playing strong and managed to get a 9 point lead before Leigh Charlton scored New Canaan's first basket.

The score at the end of the first quarter was 9 - 2 to Wilton.

In the second quarter, the New Canaan girls continued to fight hard with Lauren Sechan showing great defensive skills and Riley Krug scoring an impressive inbound play.

Even so, Wilton continued to also play aggressively and extended their lead at half time to 19 -4.

The second half proved to be significantly better for New Canaan as they narrowed the Wilton lead in both the 3rd and the 4th quarter.

A quick lay up by Leigh Charlton started the third quarter, followed by long range jump shots from just inside the 3 pt line by Emma Barker and Lauren Sechan.

Fast breaks from Alexa O'Neill and Leigh Charlton gave Lauren Sechan an opportunity to add quick points to the 3rd quarter score board.

Outscoring Wilton in the third quarter by 10 points to 8, New Canaan narrowed Wilton's lead to 13 points at the end of the quarter.

The fourth and final quarter was extremely tight with only 6 points scored.  Again, New Canaan outscored Wilton by 4 points to 2.

New Canaan's defense was remarkable in the 4th quarter, limiting Wilton to only 2 points for that quarter.

Annie Minaglia defended the New Canaan basket tirelessly with a number of well timed blocks and steals.

In spite of New Canaan's strong second half, Wilton ultimately secured a 29 - 18 point win for the game.

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

New Canaan hockey players are better off playing at Sono, Ridgefield or Stamford Youth Hockey.
