New Canaan 7th Grade Girls Fall to Monroe
The New Canaan 7th grade girls team came into the game riding a two game win streak gaining more confidence that their improving full court and aggressive pressing defense would keep the momentum going in 2013. The highly touted Monroe team struggled to advance the ball in the first half as New Canaan's suffocating traps wreaked havoc. After baskets by Annie Minaglia, Maeve Selvaggi, Alexa O'Neil and a buzzer beating three pointer by Lauren Sechen, New Canaan went into half time leading by one point. When reached for comment, New Canaan guard/forward Alexa O'Neil said, "We played hard and fought to the final buzzer. Monroe is a good team, and we will learn from this and come back stronger and tougher next time." The second half was all Monroe as the game broke open despite the best efforts of the black and pink and a shut down penetration and their opponents offense. The Lady Rams fell as the final tally was 22-15.
