Local Water Installs First Station at New Canaan YMCA

Norwalk-based Local Water LLC installed the company’s first environmentally friendly water filling station at the New Canaan Community YMCA in New Canaan, Connecticut last Thursday.  The filling station which filters and chills local tap water, allows patrons to refill their own water bottles at no cost to the customer or the facility.  The filter includes both membrane and carbon activated elements to reduce cyst, bacteria, sediment and chlorine taste and odor.  The water also goes through UV purification which sterilizes any bacteria that may get through the filter.  The result is exceptionally clean, great tasting water.

“We are pleased to provide members and staff at the New
Canaan YMCA with a convenient, healthy way to hydrate and an alternative to bottled water,” said Wylie Sawyer, co-founder of Local Water, LLC.

The water station, which is funded through corporate
sponsorships, allows facilities such as the New Canaan YMCA, to provide the service to their patrons while receiving a portion of the sponsorship funds.  All funds received by the New Canaan YMCA through Local Water sponsorships will help the Y provide clean water to those in need through its partnership with Facing the Future, a child development facility in the Kenyan slum of Kibera.  “We have developed an innovative business model that enables Local Water to give back to the community while providing sponsors an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility.  It is a win-win for everyone,” said company co-founder, John F. Carney.

The company’s water station at the New Canaan YMCA is co-sponsored by Casey Energy, a full service home heating and cooling company based in Ridgefield, Connecticut and Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut.

“When I learned about the opportunity to sponsor a
filling station I was immediately excited to get behind it.  It is a concrete way to demonstrate my company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and the communities we service,” said Shane Casey, president of Casey Energy.

“We are happy to work with Local Water, LLC to provide
our members with a convenient and healthy way to refill their bottles, said Craig Panzano, Executive Director at the New Canaan YMCA.  He added, “The water station supports the Y’s commitment to promote social responsibility and provide community members with opportunities to get involved in making a difference.  We are also thrilled that the sponsorship funds we receive will help us provide clean water to the children we support at Facing the Future in Kibera, Kenya.  So far the reaction from members and staff has been extremely positive.”

Local Water, LLC has plans to rapidly expand its network
of sponsored water filling stations.  A second water filling station is being installed on August 29, 2012 at the Newtown Youth Academy, located in Newtown, CT.  Click here to learn more about Local Water.

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

New Canaan hockey players are better off playing at Sono, Ridgefield or Stamford Youth Hockey.
