On Sunday, November 18th at 11 a.m. the ninth annual Turkey Trot will take place at Irwin Park in New Canaan to raise money for the Open Door Norwalk Emergency Shelter.
For eight years, the Turkey Trot has raised money to support the Open Door Norwalk Emergency Shelter with a fun walk/run through the beautiful ¾ mile trail of Irwin Park. Organized by a team of New Canaan high school students: Kelly Clark of Greenwich Academy, Devin McVeigh of New Canaan High School and Katelyn Schoenholtz of the New Canaan High School, the event provides funds greatly needed over the busy holiday season.
Bill Okwuosa, Executive Director of the Open Door Norwalk Emergency Shelter said, “The shelter residents appreciate every bit of help that comes into the shelter. This enables the shelter to support a stable and satiable lifestyle for all its clients. Without generous people like yourselves, there wouldn’t be changes in our clients’ lives.”
This year, the Open Door shelter has made a desperate appeal to our annual event for financial support. Since the challenging economic crisis, the shelter has seen a huge increase in homeless clients and a decrease in donor contributions which has created a large shortfall. They currently project that they do not have enough funds to provide hot meals over the holidays to all of their clients.

Bring your family, friends and pets for a brisk walk or fun run, rain or shine. Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, a raffle and prizes will be on hand. Students can use this event to earn community service hours.
