The Philip Johnson Glass House, a site of The National Trust for Historic Preservation, will offer 2012 tour tickets for sale beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14. The upcoming tour season, which runs from Wednesday, May 2 through Friday, November 30 (excluding Tuesdays), represents the sixth year that The Glass House has welcomed visitors to the site.
In response to visitor demand, The Glass House introduces new group tour packages this season and offers the Pure Glass House Tour on a daily basis. American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education learning units credit (CEU) is available on select tours. Visitors may also take advantage of New Canaan parking passes available for sale.
Tour tickets offering six different site experiences range in price from $30 to $250 and may be purchased online at www.philipjohnsonglasshouse.org or via phone at 866-811-4111.
New Group Tour Packages Introduced
Glass House Group Tour Packages offer schools, organizations, private groups, clubs, corporations, and non-profits an opportunity to customize their site experience. The Glass House can accommodate groups of 39 visitors in staggered tours of up to 13 people each. Groups can choose the type of site experience from among the Site Tour; Pure Glass House Tour; or Three Focus Tours (Architecture, Art History or Landscape/Gardens) and tours can be booked in the morning, afternoon or on the weekend. Group tour request forms and additional information can be found on the Glass House site at www.philipjohnsonglasshouse.org/visit.
Back By Popular Demand: Pure Glass House Tour
In response to visitor demand, The Glass House will offer the Pure Glass House Tour on a daily basis (excluding Tuesdays) throughout the 2012 tour season. This one-hour guided experience is a shortened tour that visits only Philip Johnson’s iconic Glass House (1949). Visitors are transported by van directly to and from the entrance to the home and will spend time inside the Glass House and outside on the promontory overlooking Johnson’s 47-acre curated landscape. This tour option is ideal for those visitors who are interested in learning about the Glass House but have limited time, mobility or prefer not to participate in the 3/4 mile walk over uneven terrain required to visit the additional buildings on the site. ($30 per person)
Additional 2012 Tour Offerings
In addition to the Pure Glass House Tour, visitors may also choose from the following tour options: Glass House Site Tour ($45 per person); Focus Tours: Architecture, Art History or Landscape/Gardens ($45 pp); Extended Tour ($100 pp); Evening Tour ($100 pp); Private Tour ($250 pp); and Glass House Private Tour + Four Seasons Dinner Package ($450 pp).
American Institute of Architects (AIA) Credits Offered
The Glass House offers American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education learning units credit on three types of tours: Site, Focus and Extended (2 CEU per tour).
Parking Passes Available For Purchase
Tours begin and end at the Glass House Visitor Center + Design Store located at 199 Elm Street in downtown New Canaan, directly across from the Metro North New Canaan train station. Public parking is not available at the Visitor Center so visitors can choose from three municipal metered parking lots located just one block from the facility.
The Glass House encourages weekday visitors to secure a daily parking pass ($2.50 each) which is available for purchase at the time of ticket sale online at www.philipjohnsonglasshouse.org or via phone (866.811.4111). Passes allow all-day parking and the ability to enjoy downtown New Canaan restaurants and shops at leisure. Parking passes are not necessary for weekend or evening tours. Guests with special needs should contact the Glass House Visitor Center in advance (203.594.9884 ext. 0) to make special transportation arrangements.
