Local athletes take 1st Place at eSynchro U.S. Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championships

RIVERSIDE, California (June 21-29, 2013)—Members of the New Canaan YMCA Aquianas Synchronized Swimming Team earned first place in the 16/17 trio event at the 2013 eSynchro U.S. Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championships last week. Nearly 1,000 athletes ages 11 to 19 participated in the competition held June 21-29 in Riverside, California.  The event was the world’s largest synchronized swimming competition.  Despite competing during a record breaking heat wave, local athletes finished strong.

 

The 16-17 Age Group Trio of Renee Collett, Emily Roney, and Erin Wheeler placed first in a field of 37 trios from around the country.  7th place went to the Trio of Diya Banerjee, Alexandra Lin and Isabella Montgomery. The 16-17 Age Group Team of Banerjee, Collett, Lin, Montgomery, Roney, and Wheeler placed third in a field of 29 teams.  Roney placed third in the solo event out of a field of 41 competitors.  Roney appeared at the awards podium again to receive the 4th place ribbon for 16-17 Figures.  In the 16-17 Duet event partners Alice Chidley and Montgomery earned 6th place out of 41 routines.

The 11-12 Age Group also achieved success.  The team of Claire Batchelor, Eileen Flynn, Sarah Hoyt, Audrey Millar, NinaRobbe, Eva Spangler, Emmanuella Tchakmakjian, Nicole Vanderlee and alternate Carly Legenzowski placed 7thout of 32 teams.  In the Duet competition out of 39 teams Flynn and Tchakmakjian earned 5th place and Millar and Vanderlee scored 10th place.  In the Trio event Batchelor, Flynn and Millar placed 9thout of 37. Tchakmakjian, a member of the 11-12 National Team and East Zone 11-12 Age Group All-Star Team, earned 6th place in the Solo competition and 11th place in the figures event.

The 18-19 Age Group Duet of Rebecca Trinklein and Wheeler earned a 5th place finish in a field of 29 routines. 

 

The two 13-15 Age Group teams made strong showings.  In the preliminary competition out of a field of 39 teams the team of Alice Chidley, Katie Farrell, Emma Flynn, Camilla Kline, Lauren La Porta, Sierra Rojas-Thomas, Teresa Salamone, Hannah Vogel (and alternates Jessica Moss and Alexandra Poteet) came in 16th place.  The team of Olivia Buckley, Kate Chidley, Katherine Connolly, Brooke Glatzhofer, Rachel Panzano, Katherine Reiter, Olivia Weiss and Eliza Wetmore placed 20th.
