NCHS Boys Varsity Squash Fairwest League Champs

NCHS BOYS VARSITY SQUASH- 2014 DIVISION 1 and 2 FAIRWEST CHAMPIONS

For the second year running, the Rams Boys Varsity A squash team won the Fairwest Division 1 championship!

The Rams had an undefeated season against league member schools: Greenwich High School, Rye High School, Darien High School, Bronxville High School, and Fairfield High School.  The Boys Varsity B team was also undefeated against the same high schools and is the Fairwest Division 2 champion.

League President and founder of New Canaan Squash, Liz Schmidt said “I am so proud of our players.  With great coaching coming out of Chelsea Piers and an amazing group of dedicated and talented squash players, we had some of the best squash matches in our 8 year history this season. 

"We have grown to include more that 35 high school players and it’s been exciting to introduce a new sport and watch it grow.  We have a great group of kids who really love to play and a wonderful parent base that is very supportive.” 

In addition to league matches, NCHS Varsity Squash competes against other schools in the area.  They also traveled to Philadelphia for Nationals and placed third in Division 3.

Varsity coach Supreet Singh of Chelsea Piers was thrilled with the level of play from the boys this season.  "The New Canaan High School squash team is a group of young, eager and self-motivated individuals.  They have come a long way in the last two years."

Senior co-captain Henry Greer feels very proud to be part of such a great squad. "As a departing senior, I can honestly say that the team has grown immensely, not only in numbers, but in skill and maturity. 

"I'm so proud of my teammates for all of their hard work, both at the U.S. High School Squash Nationals and in winning the Fairwest Championship for the second year in a row."

Varsity A players are Grayson Bubrosky, Killian Bubrosky, Hal Holappa, Christian Megherby, Andreas Kjekstad (team manager), Kyle Finnican, Sam Havens, and Will Gruseke (co-captain). Varsity B players are Henry Greer (co-captain), Teddy Holappa, Erik Burns, JP Sloan, Alex Smith, Dylan Brennan, Sean Berry and Charlie Kallassy.

The Rams compete in the Fairwest Public School Squash League which represents schools in Fairfield and Westchester counties.  Rams Squash also includes boys sub-varsity teams and girls teams.  High school varsity teams compete in Wednesday night matches at Chelsea Piers to determine the league champions.
