New Canaan U10 Girls Red defeated the Trumbull United Dynamite by a score of 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. Trumbull went on the offensive early with a hard shot on goal that was denied by goaltender Jade Lowe. The beginning of the first half saw both teams battling hard at mid-field with limited scoring chances. When New Canaan did push the ball into the offensive zone Trumbull took a costly penalty that resulted in a goal on a penalty kick by Dillyn Patten. New Canaan would go on to score two more goals in the first half – the first by Caitlin Tully on a sweet set up from Hadley Beiles; and the second on a break away by Ashley Barton who was sprung by a pass from Avery Minter.
The New Canaan girls continued to attack in the second half and added two more goals. Dillyn Patten, assisted by Hollis Mulry, kicked a high shot over the goalie and Hadley Beiles found the back of the net with an assist from Avery Minter. Trumbull came at New Canaan with pressure at the end of the game, but Angelica Megdanis and Katie Perlitz provided shut-down defense to keep Trumbull off the board.
