Celebrate Pop Up Art Day in New Canaan on Saturday, May 31

Pop Up ART DAY, Saturday, May 31, noon to 4 p.m.
at Pop Up Park, South Avenue, New Canaan

On Saturday, May 31, from noon to 4 p.m., the Carriage Barn Arts Center and the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce welcome you to participate in Pop Up ART DAY! — a day to celebrate the arts.

See local artists working “en plein air” on the sidewalks of New Canaan, while exploring the New Canaan shops displaying art by area artists.  For children, there will be art activities in the Pop Up Park on South Avenue.

The photographer Carrie Brady, whose work is on view at The Summer House, will teach a photography workshop from 1 to 3 p.m.  Join her for a variety of photography-related activities for all ages.  Beautiful photo collage materials will be available to make unique creations.

Bring your camera or iPhone and complete the photo scavenger hunt, which will help you see the park in unique and surprising ways. From noon to 4 p.m., Nancy Scranton, a New Canaan art teacher, will be organizing fun spring-themed crafts, including lollipop flowers and paper bag barn projects.

Young explorers, who participate in the Art in the Windows Scavenger Hunt, will receive prizes from The Candy Scoop.  All activities are free.

This event is part of the Seventh Annual Art in the Windows exhibition, which is on view until June 8th. The display, which is organized by the Carriage Barn Arts Center (the home of the New Canaan Society for the Arts) and the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce (NCCC), features 71 local artists in 59 New Canaan store windows.

This exhibition showcases paintings, drawings, prints, photography, mixed media, and sculpture by local artists from Connecticut and New York. All of the works are for sale.  This collaboration exemplifies the power of partnership between artists, merchants and non-profits (CBAC and NCCC).

The mission of the New Canaan Society for the Arts, Inc. is to promote the visual and performing arts, and to enrich the community through exhibitions, education, and cultural experiences, and to operate the Carriage Barn Arts Center.

The Carriage Barn Arts Center offers artists opportunities to exhibit their work in an exceptional gallery space in a unique nineteenth-century stone barn.

Exhibitions, lectures, educational workshops, concerts and other events are held in this adaptively reused historical building on the grounds of a former estate, now Waveny Park.  Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m . to 3 p.m., Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
