$200k Worth of Jewelry Stolen from New Canaan Home

More than $200,000 in jewelry was reportedly stolen from an Avalon Drive East residence in the last few weeks, New Canaan authorities reported Monday.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, approximately 18 pieces of jewelry, ranging from mostly rings and earrings to a necklace, were stolen from a 54-year-old female between June 2 and June 10. Several of the items were valued in the $10,000 range, but the necklace was the standout piece with a value of $50,000.

The incident was reported on June 17, but Ogrinc said the delay was caused when the woman thought, though the items were not in her home, the jewelry might have been held at another location. When she discovered it was not in either location, she notified authorities.

Police said there was no signs of forced entry into the home and they are investigating who had access to the house during that time period.
