Winter storm 'Pax' is bringing everything to a snowy halt in the region, including New Canaan where Town Hall, schools and the library are closed for the day.

New Canaan Library's program with author Larry Doyle, who was scheduled to introduce his new book In Bed With Wall Street, tonight, has been postponed.

Also cancelled this evening are meetings of the Conservation Commission and the Board of Finance.

The National Weather Service said the snow will transition into a mix with sleet early Thursday afternoon before becoming a mix of rain and snow mid to late afternoon. And then there will be more snow tonight. Total accumulations could reach up to 12 inches. 

  • Today: Snow and sleet before 1pm, then rain and snow between 1pm and 5pm, then rain, snow, and sleet after 5pm. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 33. Breezy, with a north wind around 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.
  • Tonight: Rain and sleet before 10pm, then snow. Low around 29. Blustery, with a north wind 15 to 22 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 40. West wind 15 to 18 mph.
  • Friday Night: A chance of snow after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. West wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Saturday: A chance of snow before 3pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Northwest wind 5 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 14.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 27.
  • Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 8.
