Arbor Day Planting to Honor Warren Kelley

New Canaan will honor a prominent local figure during a special ceremony at Mead Park on Friday.

Town officials plan to mark Arbor Day by planting a Rutgers hybrid dogwood tree dedicated to Warren Kelley.

A former town resident and owner of Darien’s Kelley Nursery on Mansfield Avenue who served as New Canaan tree warden in the 1970s into the ‘80s (before Bill Jordan), Kelley also will be honored with a plaque, said Tree Warden Bruce Pauley.

“He worked with trees and plants all the time,” Pauley recalled.

The ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. near the colonnade (see photo).
