Big Rig Gig, King Arthur and a Day on the Farm

If your kids are into trucks, they'll dig the in Darien. For the ninth year, over twenty really big vehicles, including excavators, tractors, diggers and fire engines, and cool cars will be on hand to climb and explore. Kids can play in the new sports area, jump on bouncy castles, ride the Roaming Railroad, join a scavenger hunt, dance to musical entertainment by the Bossy Frog Band, meet the Bridgeport Sound Tigers mascot, get their hair painted, receive tattoos, and more. With delicious food and a raffle and silent auction for the parents, there's something for everyone. Proceeds go directly to Opus for Person-to-Person so you'll feel good communing with the trucks. 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Oct. 2

Is baseball fever heating up your household? Then head over to The Ridgefield Playhouse where All-Star Yankee great, Bernie Williams, will be performing on the field and off. Starting with a charity softball game at 1 p.m., you'll get an up close and personal view of Bernie at his best. Then, at 8 p.m., catch a guitar performance by this multi-talented centerfielder as he plays hits from his latest album. Oct 1
Camelot comes to Connecticut with The Connecticut Renaissance Faire in Hebron – just 90 minutes from New Canaan. It's an action-packed day of comedic adventures, armored combat, breathtaking performances, craft demonstrations, a bustling marketplace, and plenty of King Arthur-ish entertainment. Mark your calendars because, aside from all the ongoing revelry and merriment, every weekend offers special experiences: Oct. 1 and 2, there's a Renaissance beauty pageant and a real-life wedding; Oct. 8, 9 and 10 offers the Men in Kilts Strong Man Competition; Oct. 15 and 16 is the Children's Fantasy and Masquerade, as well as Pet Weekend. 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. through Oct. 16

On the quieter side, enjoy an afternoon of story-time at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center's Farm Books and Beasts program. Books come alive with a themed craft and a meet-and-greet with one of the farm animals, and it all takes place in the Hecksher Barn. 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Oct. 11

Spend the day in beautiful Ballard Park celebrating the arts at the . There will be arts and crafts stations for kids and adults, storytellers, live performances featuring dance, music and theater groups, arts and crafts for sale, as well as painting in the park. 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Oct. 1

Or spend the day on the farm! Ambler Farm Day in Wilton will be chock full of fun activities for the family, including a hay maze and pumpkin patch, hayrides, children's crafts and games (apple sling shot, anyone?), make your own scarecrow, even a vintage photo booth complete with costumes. Plus lots of delicious fresh produce and great food. 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Oct. 2

Who's the Cake Boss? Your kid will be in this cooking class at Aux Delice's professional kitchen in Stamford. Learn how to create beautiful cakes with tricks of the trade like frosting, piping, flower making, working with fondant, and writing. And of course, you get to take your yummy cakes home. Ages 7 to 14, 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Oct. 2
