Canines, Cars and Cakes

Enjoy a weekend of elegant autos, invading bedbugs, cake and ice cream. And don't forget to catch New Canaan High School's production of "The Secret Garden", beginning on Thursday.

The dog days of summer are here with BooZoo's Canine Carnival at . This two-day extravaganza will include agility shows, demos, performances, dozens of exhibitor and vendor booths, puppets, Fido's Food Court, and a Canine Cinema. On Sunday at 1:00 p.m., it’s B.Y.O.D (bring your own dog) for a Dog Walk and Pooch Parade. 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on June 4 and 5


Here's a real Norman Rockwell event: . Spend a summer afternoon slurping ice cream and joining in on children's activities, all on the beautiful grounds of the . There will be music by the Town Band, as well as Colonial music at the Hanford-Sillman House Museum along with demonstrations of spinning, weaving and printing. For the car buff, view Antique and Classic cars, and for your sweet tooth (if ice cream isn't enough), homemade cakes will be provided by the New Canaan Charity Leagues. 1-4 p.m. on June 5

If your kid, age 7-14, loves to bake, here's an opportunity to become The Cake Boss. This one-day class at Aux Delices' professional kitchen in Stamford will teach tricks of the trade like frosting, piping, flower-making, working with fondant and writing. And lucky for you, participants will be taking their masterpieces home for the family to devour. 4-6 p.m. on June 5

Decorating cakes not your thing? How about bloodsucking, creepy-crawly insects? On display at the Yale Peabody Museum in New Haven is Invasion of the Bloodsuckers: Bedbugs, Lice and Beyond. This multi-media, interactive display will teach you more than you'll want to know about pests that feed on human beings (think head lice, fleas, ticks...you get the picture). Monday - Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday noon-5 p.m. through January 2012

The  Greenwich Concours d'Elegance gives a whole new meaning to Gear Head. This event, sure to please the entire family, is listed in 1000 Places to See Before You Die - it's an auto show like no other! On Saturday, there will be a grand display of American vintage, classic and collectible automobiles from the turn of the century to the present. And on Sunday, it's International sports, touring, and competition autos from the 1900's to the present, as well as Bonhams Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia Auction. On both days, enjoy workshops and demonstrations, as well as displays of vintage boats, motorcycles and aircraft. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on June 4 and 5

The thespians are at it again!  Catch their performance of a musical adaptation of the classic children's book, . This show, with its challenging score, is rarely performed by high schools, but this year's talented teens are certainly up to it. Don't miss this final play of the year by the award-winning NCHS drama students. 7:30 p.m. on June 2, 3 and 4
