Dogs, Ducks and Frogs: A Magical Weekend for Kids

It's a whirlwind weekend of animal antics and a meeting of magicians.

It's a day for the dogs at the Greenwich Kennel Club's All Breed Dog Show, Obedience & Rally Trial at Taylor Farm Park in Norwalk. Get to know over 160 dog breeds, speak to the breeders and watch these remarkable animals strut their stuff. You'll learn the ins and outs of dog shows, meet well-known authors, even shop for unique gifts.This show, one of the largest held in New England, is a wonderful opportunity, right in our backyard, for all dog lovers. 8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., rain or shine on June 11

Get your own pooch in on the fun at the , also at Taylor Farm Park in Norwalk. Your dog will chase an elusive lure over, under and through various agility obstacles in this timed event (you get two runs, one practice and the other timed). Not to worry if Fido has questionable agility skills - any dog can participate, no experience necessary. 9 a.m. until sunset, weather permitting on June 8-12

A little closer to home, it's fun for Fido at Tails and Trails at the . It's a celebration of dogs and the people who love them, with a doggie scavenger hunt, a talent show, canine manners obedience demos, consultations with animal health experts, and an appearance by New Canaan's own fabulous of the K-9 Unit. 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on June 11


Not a dog lover? How about frogs? Head over to the Stamford Museum & Nature Center for their popular where Chris Evers of Animal Embassy will explore vernal pools and show how frogs and salamanders progress in their metamorphosis. Ages 5 and up, 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., rain or shine on June 11


Okay, how about ducks? Three thousand of them. Little yellow rubber duckies will race down Westport’s Saugatuck River for $10,000 in prizes in the . At about 12:00 noon, the ducks, each with a number corresponding to a ticket, will be launched into the river. The ducks are kept in line with 400-foot booms, and as the booms are pulled away, the race is on and the current carries the ducks. This is sure to be a fun family day with games, music, refreshments and a duck decorating contest. 10 a.m. -1 p.m. on June 11

If pulling rabbits out of hats is your kid's thing, The Society of Young Magicians is holding its annual year-end at the Villa Maria Education Center in Stamford. Young magicians age 7-17 will be performing close-up magic as well as a stage show. 10:00 a.m. on June 11
