Got Hops?: An Introduction to Homebrewing

The New Canaan Libarary is offering a class on home brews.

The New Canaan Library is offering residents an opportunity to get the inside scoop for home-brewing your own beer.

It's not too  late to sign up for the Feb. 28 workshop at the library.

At the 6:30pm class, participants will learn how to brew and appreciate their own beer during this refreshing workshop that will cover beer ingredients such as hops, grain, water and yeast, sanitizing, fermentation and beer styles. Samples of home brew will be served.

The class will be lead by Tess and Mark Szamatulski who started selling home brewing supplies by mail in 1991. Since then, their business, Maltose Express has grown and they now have a 7,000-square-foot store in Monroe, which happens to be the largest store in the Northeast. They are the authors of two of the best-selling beer recipe books, Clone Brews, Second Edition and Beer Captured.

Also, the couple has been filmed for the Discovery Channel's series "How Things Work" and have been featured on Time.com.  Their beers have garnered many awards in home brew competitions.  Registration is required for this program. Register Now.Participants must be 21+ years
