If Yoga is on Your List of 2014 Resolutions...

With the New Year just around the corner, and resolutions on your mind, yoga may top the list.

According to Donna Jackson, owner of Saraswati’s Yoga Joint, "This ancient practice that is in the headlines has stood the test of time and now science is backing up what a lot of yogis already know. It makes you feel better."

A recent article in the Huffington Post reports that even the very first time you step on your mat, you immediately reap the benefits of yoga.  The article provides a long list of the ways it can impact your health, including, but certainly not limited to decreasing stress, improving sense of well being, increasing flexibility, lowering blood pressure and improving brain function. The article credits yoga for helping to maintain a healthy weight, improve sexual function, lower blood sugar levels in diabetics and decrease back and neck pain.

"People of all ages and fitness levels can benefit from a regular yoga practice," said Jackson.

If you are new to yoga, don’t worry about not knowing what to do. The best advice would be to choose a studio with well-trained teachers who understand the importance of healthy alignment and start your yoga resolution today! Studios that focus on teaching you the basics are out there and it’s important to start there if you’re new to yoga. Saraswati’s Yoga Joint has locations in Norwalk and New Canaan and offer yoga classes for all levels from basics/foundation to advanced level.
