Officials: Main Street Road Work Two Weeks from Completion

Department of Public Works' Tiger Mann offers an update on the Main Street sidewalk project.

If you’re getting sick of the off-roading experience on Main Street, ’ has good news - the roads are optimistically estimated to be completed in two weeks.

The Main Street sidewalk project was approved by the Town Council back in October of 2011 and was estimated to be completed by Memorial Day, however, Mann says the project is now waiting on AT&T.

Along with replacement and renovation of sidewalks, Main Street itself was expanded from 24 feet to 28 feet, which means new poles were installed by CL&P and all existing wires needed to be transferred from the old poles to the new poles.

According to Mann, CL&P, Fibertech and Cable Vision have transferred their services from the old poles to the new poles, but AT&T has yet to do so.

“We’re hoping by the end of the week they’ll be done,” said Mann of AT&T. “They were notified well in advance, they knew about this project in November (2011). Certain things are completely out of control and they (AT&T) know this is waiting on them.”

Mann says it could take AT&T up to five days as of July 10 to complete the transfer of their services to the new poles. From there, Public Works will take approximately five days to complete milling, paving, adding curbs, topsoil and stripes.
