May Fair: 'It's Rain or Shine'

Is there a more cherished annual event in New Canaan than the May Fair?

In the 64 years that it’s been running, the all-day Saturday tradition, featuring rides, food, games and a tag sale, has only been pushed to Sunday once, said Megan Ferrell, director of communications at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

“It’s rain or shine,” Ferrell said. Right now, the National Weather Service is calling for rain with a chance of thunderstorms. Ferrell says she’s hoping for intermittent showers at worst—and even if more severe weather closes the rides, everything else is still on.

Right now, the tag sale is coming together, and the rides are being put together by Trumbull-based Stewart Amusement.

Here’s Nick Romano, who has been the lead man on bumper cars for eight years, pulling off one of the popular vehicles from the rack.
