The Main Street office is only temporary, as a search continues for a more permanent location. Here's the full announcement from the U.S. Postal Service:
The New Canaan Post Office, which has been temporarily relocated to 90 Main St., will offer full retail services beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, March 3. Customers will be able to get a key to their new PO Box and buy postal products and services at that location.
Services at the Mobile Unit, located across the street from the Pine Street location will cease at close of business on Saturday, March 1st.
The 90 Main St. site will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday for retail services with access for customers to pick
up their PO Box mail from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Once construction is completed, customers will be able to access their PO Boxes 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Services at the 90 Main St. site will include state of the art swipe-and-go mobile postal checkout services, allowing
simple transactions such as stamp purchases, acceptance scans, and
Priority Mail postage labels to be performed separate from a
traditional window unit.
A Self -Service Kiosk, where customers can send mail and packages, buy stamps and perform other postal services will be added in the near future and will also be available 24 hours per day.
Postal officials continue to diligently search for a permanent site for the New Canaan Post Office.
“We continue our commitment to the New Canaan community to provide a permanent Post Office in New Canaan,” said USPS Connecticut Valley District Manager David Mastroianni, adding, “We appreciate the support we have received from town officials and our customers during this challenging transition.”
