New Canaan Ranked Money Magazine's No. 5 Top-Earning Town

In its 2013 list of top-earning towns in the US, Money Magazine ranks New Canaan fifth, with a median family income of $236,758. Ranked second is nearby Weston.

New Canaan ranks high on the list of 'towns where you live when you've made it,' according to Money Magazine's annual list of top-earning towns published on Monday. 

Ranking fifth, with a population of 20,140, a median family income of $236,758 and a median home price of $1,133,000, New Canaan's numbers are interesting compared with Weston to the east, with half New Canaan's population.

Weston was ranked second top-earning town, with a median family income of $275,154 and a median home price of $755,000, knocking Greenwich out of that slot which it held in 2012.

New Canaan's short hop to Stamford and 70-minute train ride to New York City were cited as pluses for commuters. Our bustling, walkable downtown with its array of restaurants and stellar SAT scores were both cited as big draws.

Over the state line in Westchester County, Scarsdale tops the list with a median family income of $291,542 a median home price of $1,205,000 and a population of 17,336.
