New Canaan to Hold Vigil For Victims of Newtown Tragedy
New Canaan First Selectman Robert Mallozzi III praised clergy for their efforts to be "the comforting and caring voice of reason in a community struck by the senseless tragedy in Newtown."
New Canaan will join other Connecticut towns in holding a prayer vigil for the 27 victims of the tragic school shooting in Newtown starting at 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 23, at God's Acre.
In addition all residents are invited to participate in a state-wide moment of silence at 9:30 am this Friday, Dec. 21.
As per a proclamation signed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy declaring Friday a "Day of Mourning" for the state, area houses of worship will ring bells 26 times in honor of each life that was taken at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Glow-sticks will be provided during Sunday's vigil at God's Acre, according to an announcement posted on the town website.
