New Hires: Michael Jackson Coming to New Canaan Fire Department

At the Board of Selectmen meeting Tuesday morning, a number of new projects were approved, but a number of hires and position moves were confirmed within the town as well.

Most notably, the famously-named Michael Jackson will be joining the New Canaan Fire Department to fill a vacancy created through retirement. Jackson, a former volunteer firefighter from Stamford, will be the first of New Canaan's firefighters to attend the 14-week program at the Connecticut Fire Academy. It gives incoming firemen a baseline of best practices and adds a bit of prestige to the department, said Fire Chief Jack Hennessey.

"To have folks trained at the state level really raises the bar for our fire department," Hennessey said.

Jackson should join the department in December after training.

Also during the meeting, Jacqueline D'Louhy was approved as the Coordinator of Youth & Family Services, Mimi Pitt was brought on as a part-time administrative assistant for the Human Resources and Finance Departments and Debra Casey was approved as a full-time administrative assistant for the Health and Human Services Department.

Town officials said these positions were not new paid positions, but created by a restructuring of previously existing positions.
