Paging John Winger: State DOT's Striping Job in New Canaan Gets Messy

Hey New Canaan, if you're out and about traveling today along Route 106/Old Stamford Road, there's apparently an issue going on with the stripes painted along the roadway.

"I just got a phone call from the Highway Department. There's paint all over the road, I'm being told," said New Canaan First Selectman Robert Mallozzi III. "The State DOT just striped the road and the Town of New Canaan wasn't warned."

Mallozzi said normally, road striping is normally contained to the early morning hours to try and avoid issues like this, or, at the very least, cones are set up.

"We're a little surprised there was no effort to [make New Canaan aware of the project,]" Mallozzi said. "My guys called me and said, 'Rob, we can't believe this mess."

Mallozzi said the state DOT has been notified of the issue, but has yet to respond.

(A coffee to the first commenter who knows who John Winger is referencing and from where.)
