Spend the Weekend with Pippi, Rube and Friends

Art, theater and a scavenger hunt with your dog - you're bound to find fun things to do with your kids this weekend.

It's Pippi Longstocking! At the Ridgefield Playhouse, this American Family Theatre production of the popular children's story of that lovable redhead is sure to provide laughs for the whole family. 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on May 21.

And who's zanier than Pippi Longstocking? Rube Goldberg! The Discovery Museum in Bridgeport is hosting the CT Regional Rube Goldberg Competition in which contestants are asked to build a machine that can water a plant. It's too late to submit an entry, but it sure would be fun seeing what the contestants have come up with. 10 a.m.-3 p.m.. on May 21

Your little ones, ages 5-8,  will love this workshop at Silvermine Arts Center in . Working with air-dry clay, students will learn lots of pottery techniques, and will develop patterns and designs on their pieces using textures made with materials from nature and found objects. 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on May 22.

For your older artist, ages 8-12, there's , also at Silvermine. This workshop will introduce and explore the ways in which artists have represented scenic paintings and drawings of the coastal environment, and students will create their own coastal scene on artist board using paint values of their own making. 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. on May 22.

Have fun with your pooch this weekend. Fetch is a scavenger hunt for people and their dogs. You will be emailed your clues at 9 a.m. on Saturday and then off you go to answer questions, complete activities at dog parks, gather information and materials at businesses and share your experience via social media. After the hunt at 12:30 p.m., meet at the park at 333 Ludlowe St. in Stamford for a picnic, activities and awards ceremony. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 21.
