Summer Kicks Off with Memorial Day Weekend!

You'll be marching, walking and running this weekend with all sorts of races and, of course, a bounty of parades.

Don't rain on our parade! Pray for sun this weekend and march on over to our nearby towns to celebrate Memorial Day. In Stamford, the parade is held on Sunday, May 29 at noon, and starts on Summer at Hoyt St.

For a cozier affair, head over to Rowayton on Sunday at noon. That parade begins on Rowayton Ave. and ends at Veteran's Canon with a service - then it's hot dogs and soda for all at the fire station. Noon on May 29

Of course, this all leads up to the one and only New Canaan Memorial Day Parade. It starts at St. Mark's Church, marches on Main Street to Lakeview Cemetery where a memorial ceremony will be held. 9:30 on May 30

And it's worth a drive into NYC, to take part in Fleet Week. Honoring the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, there will be free ship tours, military bands, military demonstrations, displays, even performances from Broadway musicals on the piers. May 25-31

While we're in the military mode, head over to the Military Museum of Southern New England in Danbury. There, you'll find a collection of over 10,000 artifacts, covering all of the armed forces of the United States. It's a cross-section of 20th century American military history, including extremely rare vehicles, many of which are the only examples in the Western Hemisphere. This weekend, will be Open Turret Days, in which you're invited to explore the tanks and armored vehicles that were active in our nation's conflicts. Sat. 10-5, Sun and Mon 12-5. May 28-30
