American Pastoral, a Landscape Show
New Canaan, CT – The New Canaan Society for the Arts presents American Pastoral, a Landscape Show October 14 – November 11, 2012 in the Betty Barker Gallery at the Carriage Barn Arts Center in Waveny Park. The exhibition will open with an Opening Reception on Sunday October 14th from 3 – 5 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Most works are for sale. Curator Lydia Viscardi said, “American Pastoral celebrates our countries landscape in all media. Our country has a rich art tradition in the genre of landscape. This includes early American folk art paintings, grand expansive works introducing the public to the fantastic wild western frontier, the Boston impressionist school influenced by France, the WPA murals that introduced our citizens to rural and increasingly industrialized America, and late 20th and 21st century works depicting the United States and its vanishing wild places.”
