American Songbook: The Music of World War II

Performance dates are July 29 thru August 13

at the Air Conditioned Powerhouse Theatre in Waveny Park, New Canaan

        Conceived and directed by Rich Mancini, American Songbook: The Music of World War II will be The Town Players of New Canaan’s summer show. The original musical revue celebrates the music and popular culture of the American home front during World War II, showcasing well-known standards from “The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B” to “Sentimental Journey,” along with seldom-heard gems illustrating humorous as well as poignant aspects of wartime life from couples separated by the war to rationing to “Rosie the Riveter.” 

         Appearing as baby boomers, Tom Butterworth, Terry LeBel and Marion Richard will perform songs loved by their parents and grandparents, while Bill Adams, Daniel Bayer, Lisa Dahlstrom, Amanda Goodman, Lauren Nicole Sherwood and David Sylvia will portray greatest generation characters in their 20s. Lester Colodny, a member of the greatest generation, will make a cameo singing appearance. Stan Wietrzychowski is the music director.

         Performance dates for American Songbook: The Music of World War II are Friday and Saturday, July 29, 30, August 5, 6, 12 & 13 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, July 31 & August 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the air conditioned and handicapped accessible Powerhouse Theatre, located at 677 South Avenue in Waveny Park, New Canaan.          In addition, this will be the fourth summer the Town Players has supported the New Canaan Food Pantry. Summer is a hard time for food pantries.  Many people go away, but the need for food doesn’t!  The Town Players asks the audience to put non-perishables in the wicker basket by the box office window when they come to the theatre.
