The Modern Show/Famous for 15 Minutes - Icons of the 1970s and 1980s

On Thursday evening, June 24th the newest "Pop Up" of the Stamford based Samuel Owen Gallery, located at 34 Elm Street, will show The Modern Show/Famous for 15 Minutes – Icons of the 1970's and 1980's. This modern print exhibition in the heart of New Canaan's trendy retail district will feature a rare and eclectic selection of works by Andy Warhol and his contemporaries.

Special guest Corey Grant Tippin will be available from 5:30 – 6:00pm for an exclusive question and answer session. A fixture in Warhol's infamous "factory" of the 1970's, Tippin worked closely alongside the artist to create the images seen in the print series "Ladies and Gentlemen." Original Polaroid's from his days in the factory will be on display at the show, and some will be available for sale. Photographed by Warhol himself for the cover of the Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers album, Tippin has a unique perspective to share on a historic and significant time in Warhol's career.Guests will have the opportunity to have Polaroids taken of themselves by Tippin which will then be featured in a live art installation.

This collection of modern art is an exciting addition to the Elm Street window fronts. The works of these iconic Pop-Art masters are the stars of this exciting event, where visitors can expect to "see and be seen." Among these stars will be "The Star", a limited edition screen print from Warhol's "Myth" series of Greta Garbo. One of Warhol's most sought after collections; the "Myth" series expresses the artist's fixation on the unattainable. His infatuation with Hollywood glamour led him to portray the hypnotic film icon in a blaze of bordello red, in the image of her character Mata Hari of the 1931 film.

The Samuel Owen Gallery is a multi-million dollar art business, owned by Lee and Cindy Milazzo, that deals in the sale of contemporary art/vintage posters, art restoration, custom and wholesale framing, and serves as an events venue. The Pop Up Gallery features original works by such renowned artists as Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Damion Hirst, Keith Haring, as well as other notable contemporaries. Their iconic images line the walls amongst emerging artists like Todd Lim and Philippe Bertho. These pieces are joined in the gallery by an extensive collection of original vintage posters, a collection whose range extends from Italian James Bond movie posters of the 1960's, to a Louis Vuitton Cup poster featuring an Aston Martin.
