'Visions of Peace' Exhibit at Rosie Cafe Gallery

A group art exhibit, "Visions of Peace 2010," will be on display at Rosie, a café and gallery in New Canaan, with the opening event Friday, March 26, from 6 to 10pm.

The event will include live music and performance art. Refreshments and food from Rosie's will be served. Many of the exhibiting artists will be in attendence with friends and guests, plus local art lovers and the café's patrons.

Rosie chef and owner Rose Nammack conceived the theme and offered her space as a venue, inviting artists to express their visions of peace for 2010.

"My moment of inspiration was upon returning home from Vermont one evening and, as I crossed a bridge, I was struck by the light of the sunset glittering on the Connecticut River. It was a vision that left me with an overwhelming sense of calm, and of peace," Nammack said.

Artist Joanne Keane and George Nammack are curating the show. Some of the paintings and sculptures are playfully political, offering provocative social commentary along with a good helping of pointed humor, organizers said.

"Perhaps more subversive are the works that embody stillness itself and seem to invite a moment of quiet concentration. This is not the idea of peace suggested as a goal for humanity, but peace as an actual experience."

Visions of Peace 2010" will be on display for three months at Rosie, 27 Elm Street in New Canaan.
