New Canaan Man Charged In Fatal 2011 Ponus Ridge Crash

New Canaan Police announced Monday that they have charged town resident Michael M. Savage on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, in connection to the car accident that took his father's life two years prior.

On December 22, 2011, a 2009 Maserati Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said was being operated by the then 37-year-old Savage was involved in a crash on Ponus Ridge Road near Dan's Highway. Police arrived to find Savage gone from the scene and his 74-year-old father, James Jackson Savage, trapped in the vehicle showing no signs of life, according to Ogrinc.

Savage, of 119 Clearview Lane, had tried to contact emergency services during the time immediately following the accident, Ogrinc said, though cell reception had been poor and his call was routed through to Stamford first.

Police, concerned Savage might be in the area of the crash and badly injured, conducted a "wide search" with assistance from K-9 units and the Wilton police department, said Ogrinc, but authorities wouldn't speak with Savage until the following day when Stamford Hospital notified police of his arrival there.

Ogrinc said the length of time for the investigation was due largely to trying to conduct accident reconstruction while dealing with a foreign car manufacturer, as there were several delays in getting information from Maserati, who was assisting with the reconstruction. She also noted attempts to interview Savage following the crash were "unsuccessful."

Savage, now 39, was charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle, a Class D felony. The statute relating to that charge reads: "A person is guilty of misconduct with a motor vehicle when, with criminal negligence and in operation of a motor vehicle, he causes death of another person." Savage posted a $5,000 bond and was issued a court date of Dec. 23, 2013, in Norwalk.

What a total POS! Now we will be treated to another Kate Reagan fiasco. The difference is that his own family will hopefully disown this miscreant and perhaps he will end up doing time. I only hope that the image of his dead father haunts him for the rest of his miserable life. God pity his soul.
