Water Main Break Affecting New Canaan Businesses Along Elm St.

A water main break has closed the New Canaan government offices at 237 Elm Street and affected businesses in the area.

Tiger Mann of New Canaan Public Works said the break is affecting businesses along Elm Street between Grove and Park streets.

First Selectman Robert Mallozzi III said the government offices had been closed as the lack of a water supply shut down the bathrooms.

The Food Emporium and bank along Elm were unaffected as they relied on different lines. Walter Stewart's deli is closed. Everything West of Grove Street is fine, Mann said.

Aquarium estimated a 6-to-8-hour repair operation. The city received notification of the break at approximately 3 a.m., Mann said, and digging began at around 7 a.m.
