Vinny Socci's Weeping Willow

A new tree was planted at Mead Park in memory of Vinny Socci

Wow!  What a planting job!  This willow was donated to the town of New Canaan in loving memory of Vincent "Vinny"  Socci by the owners of , Mike and Sue Covino who were close friends of Vinny.

I picked it up at the nursery this morning after finishing digging it out with John (works at the nursery) and rigging it.  It hung so far out the rear of the truck that I called , and they sent a squad car as an escort to .  After trying one route around the pond, and sinking in the mud, I backed out with help from John Howe and his backhoe and took a different route.  I backed the truck down to the pond and John and his crew dug a planting hole. This job was planned for about two hours and took most of the day!

The tree is really large and very pretty in its new home. I think Vinny was watching us and having a good laugh.  I would like to think that he shares my feeling that it is a really special honor when someone plants a tree in rememberance of you. Trees represent new life every spring when they come out of dormancy and leaf out and grow.  This tree should last for many years right along with all the good memories we share about Vinny Socci.
