La Malle Couture, a high-end clothing shop for men and women, is expanding its offerings with an American line of made-to-order tailored clothing for men.
Shop owner Alexandrine Castellana says J. Hilburn does just what some clothing houses did when she was in the business back in Europe: provide the clothing customers pick out in the fabrics and styles a customer chooses, made to fit just for that customer's measurements.
Castellana suggests that a customer orders one item first to see how he likes it. Each order may take three to four weeks to fulfill, and longer in August, she said.
The American line is a branching out of the usual Italian and French lines of men's and women's clothing in the small shop at 5 East Ave., just off Main Street, near Forest Street.
For the most part, La Malle Couture has harder-to-find European lines, she said.
