At Manero's, Signs of Neglect

Though an awning hangs down and windows are cracked, food appears to be stored in display cases inside the relatively new restaurant located up the alley where Reid's used to be.

Just months after opening, Manero's Gourmet Alley on Elm Street in New Canaan is showing signs of neglect. Monday midday and Tuesday, its awning could be seen broken and hanging down over its entrance, front-facing windows cracked and doors locked though its regular business hours say it should have been open.

No one answers the phone at the restaurant, located in the space long occupied by Reid's Country Kitchen. Businesspeople in the area say the awning has been down since the winter storm hit a few weeks ago.

Manero's owner James Dadio last month was arrested by New Canaan police, on charges not related to the business.

While questions linger on the state of Manero's, police are investigating a reported larceny at a recently closed restaurant in New Canaan where Dadio had worked as head chef.
