Ferraris Dominate New Canaan's 'Top-50' Autos

The highest-assessed motor vehicles in New Canaan in 2012 speak to a town that values its iron. Here's a look at the top-50, including many Ferrari models.

Home to some of New England’s most spectacular residential properties, New Canaan also boasts a fleet of impressive and often rare motor vehicles.

New Canaan itself has emerged as a mecca of sorts for car enthusiasts from throughout the tri-state area, with the terrific “Caffeine & Carburetors” gatherings at Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee on Pine Street on Sundays once the warmer weather hits.

As Mark Bagg—who for more than two decades has owned and operated Pine Street fixture New Canaan Foreign Car Service Inc.—tells Patch, motorists and hobbyists with valuable cars in town invest in keeping them up because they often require special attention (see video).

Numbers-wise, even as the total assessed value of taxable property in town increased .6 percent year-over-year (a rise of $53.3 million from 2011 to 2012)—that’s cars as well as residential and commercial property—the motor vehicle portion of that “Grand List” declined 2.2 percent, or about $5.5 million, according to the town assessor.

It isn’t clear why that happened. The assessor could not immediately be reached for comment (though I’ll update the comment thread here if I hear back).

What follows is a list of the top-50, highest-assessed motor vehicles in New Canaan in 2012, as per the assessor. The list includes make, model, year, color, assessed value and owner.

A favorite among car aficionados here? Ferraris, with 21 of the top-50 spots:

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

if they had done it at night at least it wouldn't have been smudged. BUT, i happen to think itsRead More nice, and especially with the flags hanging. we forget we are a small new england town, and small things like the red white and blue stripes remind me that we still are! :)
