Readers' Choice Winner: Tuscan Osteria and Mercato

The New Canaan restaurant won 33 percent of the vote in New Canaan Patch's "Readers' Choice" contest.

New Canaan Patch and found a 4,200-square-foot Tuscan market and restaurant to be their choice for the best in town: .

The Main Street restaurant claimed 33 percent of New Canaan's 372 votes. Runners-up in the new, weekly poll include (18 percent) and (17 percent).

And New Canaan Patch readers were sure to express why Tuscan is #1:

: Tuscan! Lunch and dinner Is delish! Bar is a wonderful ace to meet up with friends and have drinks! Marc and the crew are wonderful and treat you well ;) love it there. My pick for lunch or friday/Sunday evening out! The entertainment is great!

: Hands down have to say The Tuscan. Cannot say i've been to all of the other places listed, but when get up to that area; do love the ambience at The Tuscan. And clearly love the Food along with the wines and special cocktails to compliment. I was also there on a Thursday evening where I heard they have a regular musician playing. The night I was there the guy truly "jammed" out which was a nice surprise. Best to all the good local restaurants!

Here's some more information about Tuscan: It is home to a butcher shop, pasta area and coffee and espresso stations. It also features a full bar, two 60-inch flat screen televisions and a full dining area.

Next week, New Canaan Patch is looking for the "Readers' Choice: Best Preschool." The voting begins Monday morning.

Editor's Note: An Internet poll is not the most ideal vote-collection system in the world, as we all know. That's why we always strive to be 100 percent clear with our readers at Patch that this is not in any way a scientific poll. Our readers' choice features are designed to be a fun and completely friendly expression of our collective passion for great food, great service or a great product, all close to home. It's also a fantastic way for small and medium business owners — the lifeblood of our local economy — to show how much they appreciate their customers. We take a look at comments, reviews as well as the poll, not just any one aspect, in communicating back to readers who among the group of businesses may rise to the top in readers' minds. And even if one business mobilizes more "votes" over another, everyone comes away with a lot of visibility, great displays of loyalty and, best yet, our corner of the web now has a great deal more information about local businesses. We live and shop here too, so if anyone wants to learn more about how they can interact with their customers on Patch or have any suggestions for future readers' choice features, don't hesitate to reach out to your local editor or Regional Editor Michael Dinan at michaeld@patch.com.

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.
