Restaurateurs: Natural Gas Would Be a Hot Idea

Some New Canaan restaurant owners say that natural gas running through downtown would help them a lot by freeing them of propane tanks for cooking.

"We're definitely on board with natural gas," said Paul Mauk, owner of Tequila Mockingbird at 6 Forest St. His business would save money by using natural gas, he said.

"I think it's probably the single biggest thing the town could do" for restaurants, he said. "In my opinion, that should be the No. 1 priority in town."

Lorenzo Colella, owner of Joe's Pizza at 23 Locust Ave. downtown, said he'd be in favor of it, "definitely—if it's cheaper." He said his restaurant uses up 400 to $450 worth of propane a week, "so if it's cheaper, I'm all for it, and it's environmentally friendly."
