Tony's Deli Isn't Gone from New Canaan, Just Take a Peek Across the Street

If you're roaming around downtown New Canaan and happen to be walking along Pine Street when hunger strikes, you won't be able to visit Tony's Deli anymore—At least not without crossing the street.

Formerly located at 78 Pine Street, on the southeast corner at the intersection with Grove Street, Tony's Deli closed down Tuesday at 1 p.m. to relocate over to the odd-numbers-side right next to Zumbach's Gourmet Coffee and almost directly across the street from their former location.

"Today's our first day after making the move yesterday," said store owner Antonio Gencarelli. "The move went okay. So far, we're very happy here."

Gencarelli said the previous landlord's desire to have them out of the building was the driving force behind the move. The former location still has a large sign in the window informing customers of the new location.

Several times Wednesday afternoon, people could be seen walking up to the old building, reading the sign and crossing the street with a smile.

"All day that's been happening," Gencarelli laughed. "All this morning, people have been walking in saying, 'What happened?!' It's a big change from yesterday to today."
