Urban Outfitters Signs Lease in Westport

Expected to open in April 2012.

Urban Outfitters signed a lease on Friday, April 15 to occupy space on 101-107 Post Road E.  David Waldman, founder of David Adam Realty, expects the international clothing chain to move in by April 2012.

“I’m very excited for them coming,” Waldman told Patch. “It’s going to be a phenomenal [addition to downtown Westport].”

Urban Outfitters, Inc. operates several retail chains, including Westport’s . Urban Outfitters caters to a younger crowd (teens and young adults) with casual clothing. There are more than 100 stores throughout the world. Current Connecticut locations include Greenwich and the Yale University campus at New Haven.

The space was formerly occupied by Metro Swimshop, which . The building will undergo a total makeover. Urban Outfitters coming to town is one of many changes expected in the downtown area in the next several years.

“There’s a lot of good things happening and I think the catalyst was the GAP [moving],” said Waldman.

Later this year, Gap will be moving in to 125 Main St., which is owned by Waldman’s company, creating vacancies for potential new businesses.
